Oscar "Gene" Bunton

Oscar “Gene” E. Bunton, age 80, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021, at Stonebridge of Owensville.

He was born May 9, 1941 in Oak Hill, a son to the late Lee Oscar and Ella (Haines) Bunton.

On July 1, 1986 he was united in marriage to Sherry Hackney at the courthouse in Hemann. Sherry survives of Owensville.

Oscar had been employed at Freeman Hill in the past and retired from Gerald Industries after 25 years.

He was a lifelong area resident and enjoyed the outdoors, doing yard work, and reading the newspaper and his Bible. Oscar liked watching older comedy shows like Gilligan's Island and Mama’s Family but his great joy came from spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Sherry, Oscar is survived by: one daughter, Christina ‘Witte’ Onder and her husband Brian of Owensville; three grandchildren, Allysa, Lucas, and Levi Onder of Owensville; one brother, Earl Brown of St. Claire; three sisters, Mary Miller of Washington, Pearl Bunton of Bourbon, and Cathy Denham and her husband Rick of Hawaii; and one special nephew, Michael Spurgeon as well as many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Orville Bunton, James Bunton, Vernon Bunton, Shirley Spurgeon, Sharron Niehause, Emmet Bunton, Elvin Bunton, and Ronald Bunton.

Family held services will be held at a later date.
