Wayne Rogers, age 95, of St. Charles and Hazelwood, Missouri and formerly of Cooper Hill, Missouri passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, at the Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital.
Wayne was born April 29, 1930, in Cooper Hill, a son to the late Nora May (Jett) Rogers. He was the youngest of five brothers – Harvey, Gene, Olin and Orville.
Wayne was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Sterling/ Bay High School and a longtime member of the Dunn Road Chapel and Florissant Churches of Christ. Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1952.
In 1951, he was united in marriage to Mildred Dolores Shanks of Belle, Missouri. Wayne and Mildred were happily married for 74 years. Mildred, who survives, resides in St. Charles, Missouri.
Wayne had been employed at McDonnell Douglas Corporation initially as a Quality Assurance Inspector before becoming Director and then Superintendent for design development, flight testing and production of military aircraft including the F-4 Phantom, F-15 Eagle, F-18 Hornet and AV-8B Harrier. He retired after 34 years of service.
Wayne enjoyed doing all of his own mechanic work himself as a DYI man. Fixing his own cars, doing his own home repair, and even mowing his own yard into his 90’s. His faith in God was strong and hardly ever missed a Sunday service and could often be found studying the Bible. He loved fossil collecting and arrowhead hunting with an extensive collection of both. Wayne was a kind and giving man generously supporting numerous Christian organizations. He will be missed greatly by his family and those that knew and loved him.
Wayne is survived by his wife Mildred, his son, Steven Rogers, and his wife Stephanie of Yardley, PA; and two granddaughters, Alyssa Rogers and Kareena Rogers as well as many extended family members and friends.
Visitation for Wayne will be on June 28, 2025 at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with interment in Countryside Memorial Gardens near Owensville, MO with full military honors.
