Roy William Newman, a longtime resident of the Belle/Bland area, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at the age of 75, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born on May 11, 1951, in Chicago, IL, to the late Clarence Newman and Lillian (Erhardt) Newman. He and his family moved to a farm outside of Bland, MO, when he was 12, and he graduated from Bland High School in 1970. He was the proud father of two sons, Jared and Jason Newman.
Roy had a passion for cars and a mechanical mind that led to a lifelong career as a mechanic and autobody professional, where he loved the challenge of taking something seemingly beyond repair and making it new again. This love for restoration also extended into his personal and spiritual life where he found a passion for spreading the gospel and helping others overcome their own seemingly insurmountable obstacles on their path to becoming a better version of themselves and a better servant to their Creator.
He served as deacon and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for over 50 years. Roy served as trustee of the Gasconade Valley Baptist Association and was a longtime volunteer at the Baptist Association Church Camp. He was dedicated to bringing joy and ministry to others through many service-based organizations, including Campers on Mission, Operation Christmas Child, and many others.
Roy loved his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his two sons, Jared Newman of Belle, MO, and Jason Newman and his wife, Emily Doucette, of Eugene, OR; his three grandchildren, Paige Newman (8), Brynn Newman (6), and Laine Newman (4); his partner of 24 years, Anita Turner, of Union, MO; his four siblings, Paul Newman, Art Newman and his wife, Sheryl, Jimmy Newman, and Martin Newman; and his Erhardt cousins, church family, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lillian Newman, and his siblings, Ralph Newman, Alan Newman, and Rose Mae (Newman) Hartmann.
Services for Roy will be held Saturday, June 6th, 2026, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Hwy NN in Bland, MO. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m.. Interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery with lunch to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be provided as a donation to his church home, Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
