Peggy Westerhouse, age 81, of Belle, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026. She was born on May 16, 1945, in Salem, Missouri, to Harold and Mary (Watson) Land.
Peggy grew up in Green Valley, Illinois, where she attended school and graduated from Green Valley High School in 1963. Throughout her life, Peggy was known for her incredible work ethic and her determination to always stay busy. She was truly a workaholic, and those who knew her will tell you that you rarely, if ever, saw Peggy sitting down. She was always moving, working on something, helping someone, or finding something that needed to be done.
Peggy spent much of her working life as a factory worker, including time working at Kingsford. In 1994, Peggy and her husband, Bob Westerhouse, began owning and operating Westco Trucking. Together, they worked hard to build and operate their business, continuing until 2020. Peggy took great pride in her work and was never afraid of a hard day’s work.
While Peggy worked hard, she also knew how to enjoy life and make memories with the people she loved. She loved to travel and enjoyed camping, creating many special memories along the way. Peggy also shared a special bond with her mother through their love of sewing. The two enjoyed spending time together sewing, making it a hobby that held special meaning for Peggy throughout her life.
When Peggy was younger, she enjoyed reading and especially loved Danielle Steel books. As the years went by, however, her grandchildren became one of the greatest sources of joy in her life. Peggy loved babysitting them and spending time with them, and her grandchildren especially loved going to “Granny’s house.” Her home was a place where they felt loved, welcomed, and cared for. Peggy’s house was also the gathering place for the family, and many family events and celebrations were held there. Having her family together was something Peggy treasured, and she loved the memories made around her home.
She will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her busy spirit, her love of family, and her generous heart. She was the kind of person who was always doing something for someone else and who found joy in having the people she loved close by. The memories made at “Granny’s house,” around the campsite, while traveling, and during family gatherings will be treasured by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Tinker of Belle; her grandsons, Darin (Jessica) Guinn of Belle, Cole (Ralicia) Tyler of Belle, and Dalton (Frankie) Tyler of Chicago, Illinois; and her great-grandchildren, Keleigh Backues (Jayden), Cooper Guinn, Grayson Tyler, Emalynn Tyler, Kaydenze Guinn, Andrew Tennyson, Cameron Tennyson, Bryan Sherman, and Gaige Guinn. Her sisters, Vivian Stoehr, Ragina Trout, Cherie Heilfers, and Linda VanEtten; and her brothers, Doug (Janice) Land, Gary (Jodi) Land, and Terry (Mary) Land.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Westerhouse; her parents, Harold and Mary (Watson) Land; her daughter, Bobbi Tyler; her grandsons, Oryon Guinn and J.P. Tennyson; her sister, Darlene Land; and her brother, Junior Land.
