Ned Lyle Steiner

Ned Lyle Steiner, age 65, of Bland, passed away on December 11, 2023 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Ned was born on October 31, 1958, in Jefferson City, a son to the late Erlene Louise (Drewel) Steiner.

Ned was a lifelong Bland resident, a longtime member of the Zion Church in Bland, and a 1977 graduate of Bland High School.

Ned was employed as a foreman at Brown Shoe in Owensville from 1977 until 1987 and worked at ABB in Jefferson City for 22 years until his health forced him to retire. He was set to be the parts manager for  Schlottog Deisel and Excavating, before his death. He was excited to work with his son-in-law Kurt who he loved and admired,  and his daughter Rachel. Ned loved his town of Bland and served as an Alderman for many years as well as organizing music festivals at the park and getting the park pavilion built.  You would see him often riding in his side by side or white golf cart through town making sure all was ok in town.

Ned enjoyed fishing and riding his side by side but his big love was music which was his soul. He was an entertainer that loved to sing and played the guitar, harmonica, and rocked the keyboard to many different styles of music. Ned was self-taught on the guitar and played in a band called Stone Rose when he was younger as well playing for peoples funerals and other occasions. He was sentimental and loved Christmas time and, of course Halloween, which was his birthday. Although he was divorced from his 2 wives, Sheryl and Lisa, they remained great friends through the years.  Strong willed and strong in his beliefs, Neds faith in God was strong and always put others needs ahead of his own. He was honest and a jokester with a great sense of humor that was uplifting and positive for others. Ned had a special bond with his grandson, Jance, as well as the unbreakable bond he had with his only daughter, Rachel. He will be missed greatly by his community, church, friends and family.

Ned is survived by: one daughter, Rachel Schlottog and her husband Kurt of Bland; one grandson, Jance Schlottog of Bland; two nieces, Jenna Sladek and her husband Nick of Pacific and Kara Sneeringer and her husband Darren of Catawissa; one cousin, Steve Peth and Jennie Peth of St. Louis, one sister-in-law, Kelley Steiner; two brothers from different mothers, Wade Hicks and Jill Schlottog and Brady Hicks and Kim Schlottog, as well as many extended family members and friends.

Ned was preceded in death by his mother, Erlene Louise (Drewel) Steiner, one brother, Kem Steiner, one nephew, Ross Steiner, his grandparents, Benjamin and Orilla Drewel and a aunt and uncle, Jim and Erna Peth.
