Margaret Ellen Storer

Margaret “Maggie” Ellen Storer, age 92, passed away Friday, September 4, 2020 at her home in Belle, MO.

Maggie was born May 7, 1928, in Greenville, Ohio, the youngest daughter to the late Harold and Mae (Mung) Gilbert. She was a 1946 Graduate of Greenville Senior High School in Greenville, Ohio.

Maggie worked as a telephone operator, Fram auto filter assembler, and as a waitress. She and several friends chose to travel around the Midwest. She ended up in Buffalo, OK, where she met a truck driver named Archie Storer. Maggie and Archie decided to get married September 5, 1953. Shortly after, they moved to Ponca City, OK, where Archie’s truck driving company placed him. In June of 1955, their first child was born, a daughter Sherry. After about four years living in Ponca City, OK, they were transferred to a terminal in Belle, MO. In October of 1958, their second child, a son Neil was born. When both children started Maries County RII school district Maggie applied for a job as an assistant cook and later became the head cook. Maggie enjoyed feeding the students, and their stories for 25 years until her retirement in 2003 due to health reasons.

Maggie enjoyed reading and growing a vegetable garden to provide food for her family. She loved animals and with help from her children she had the joy of owning all sorts of pets over the years such as quail, pheasants, hamsters, dogs, and cats. After Maggie got macular degeneration, she enjoyed listening to a good baseball game with the St. Louis Cardinals on the radio and keeping tabs on her favorite player Yadier Molina. She also enjoyed her time spent shopping with family and friends. In her later years of life her 3 cats kept her busy with their antics.

Maggie is survived by: one daughter, Sherry Lee Von Klemen (Storer) of Fort Worth, Texas; one Son, Neil Clyde Storer; one grandson, Damien Michael Von Klemen; Nephews, David Allen Small, Randy Gilbert, Rusty Gilbert; and a special friend, Velma Sadler along with many other extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Maggie was preceded in death by: one brother, Herb Gilbert, and one sister, Martha Trissell.
