Lewis 'Ducky' Clayton Martin

Lewis C. “Ducky” Martin, age 86, of Belle, formally of Carrollton, MO, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, at residence. Ducky was born on April 5, 1927, in Carroll County Mo., a son to the late Ira Belle and Vessie (Newsom) Martin. Ducky graduated from Wakenda, MO High School in 1945. After graduating, Lewis enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for two years and upon his release from the regular Navy, served six years in the Naval Reserves. After serving his country he moved to the Belle area where he lived until his death. Ducky attended college in Colorado where he was educated in the art of printing. Upon moving to Belle, he worked for the Tri-County Newspapers for 50 years. He retired in 2006. Ducky was a member of the Pilot Knob Church in Summerfield. He was an avid Pitch player and enjoyed hunting and fishing. One of his greatest joys in life was time spent with his nieces and nephews who always called him “Uncle Duck”. He will be missed by all that knew him. Lewis is survived by: one brother, Norman Martin and his wife Helen of Carrollton, MO; one niece, Mary Ann (Tonnar) Rastorfer of Kansas City; five nephews, Keith Martin of Lees Summit, Curtis J. Martin of Lees Summit, Tom R. Martin of Memphis, TN, Alvin Martin of Memphis, TN, and John Martin of Memphis, TN; nine great nieces and nephews; one great-great-niece and one great-great nephew as well as many cousins and friends. In addition to his parents Lewis was preceded in death by: one brother, Donald Martin and two sisters, Lois Hurt and Helen Tonnar. Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Pleasant Park Cemetery in Carrollton, MO.
