Leslie George Towell of Belle died Thursday evening, January 14, 2010, in the Gasconade Manor Nursing Home in Owensville. He was 85. Les was born on June 19, 1924, in St. Louis. He is the son of the late George and Grace Miller Towell.
Surviving Les is a brother in law John Ridenhour and sisters in law Janiece Ridenhour, Joyce Medlock, and Mildred Strain.
Les was married to Janet Ridenhour who passed away in 1961. He was later remarried to Amy Harris. Amy preceded Les in death in 2002. Also preceding Les is a son Jeffrey "Butch" Towell and a brother Clyde Towell.
Les worked in auto body shops in St. Louis and Belle. He had his own body shop on Hwy 42 for several years. He loved restoring antique cars and trucks from the frame up. He and Amy moved to Carlsbad, NM, where they had an Antique Car Barn. Les showed, restored, and sold antique automobiles. He had many trophies to show for his work. Les and Amy retired in 1990 and moved back to Belle. He was a member of the Pilot Knob Baptist Church.
Les was an Army veteran of World War II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant after serving in the occupation of Germany.
