Larry D. "Cotton" Walters

Larry "Cotton" Walters, age 64, of Bland, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013, at his home in Bland surrounded by his family and friends.

Larry was born September 13, 1949, in Cypress, Illinois, a son to the late Arle Walters and Mable (Hassler) Walters.

On December 2, 1968, Larry was united in marriage to Sandy Stradford in Belle. From this union was born three sons who will miss him greatly.

As a teenager, Larry grew up stacking cord wood for his father "Shorty" and loved to race old muscle cars. His favorite car was his Plymouth GTX 440. Larry worked as a mechanic for over 45 years in the Belle area. He was well known by many for being able to fix anything mechanical as well as being fair priced and honest. He was a Christian man and a former member of the Masons. Besides being the mayor of Belle for a time in the 70's, he was instrumental in the development of the Belle water tower as well as the first volunteer fire department in Belle. He also served in the Army Reserves for 11 years. He made a lot of good friends over the years and will be remembered fondly by all.

When he wasn't working or helping out others, Larry loved playing the guitar and singing old country songs at the kitchen table. He also enjoyed growing tomatoes and peppers but his real love was to his God, his family, and his grandkids.

Larry is survived by: three sons, Larry D. Walters and his girlfriend Lynda of Belle, Jason Walters and his wife Jeana of Vichy and Jarrett and his wife Lori of Owensville; three brothers, Ronnie Walters of Highgate, David Walters of Belle, and Rhandy Walters of North Carolina; three sisters, Brenda Lange of Belle, Yvonne Light of Belle, and Arlene White of Belle; ten grandchildren, Kendra Walters, Madison Walters, Dawson Walters, Josye Walters, Nicholas Walters, Mackenzie Walsh, Korey Owens, Noland Walters, Raelyn Walters and Adalyn Walters as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by: four brothers, Donnie, Lonnie Dale, William Paul, and Gary "Bucky" Walters and one sister, Vicky Walters.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Sassmann's Chapel in Belle.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Faith Christian Center Assembly of God in Belle with Pastor Bill Perkins officiating. Interment will follow at the College Hill Cemetery
