Kem O. Withouse, age 74, of Belle, Missouri, passed away on October 30, 2026. A lifelong resident of the Belle area, Kem was a hardworking farmer, devoted husband, faithful Christian, and friend to many.
Known to many as “Beamer,” he will be remembered for his smile, strong work ethic, and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Kem was born on December 5, 1951, to James Withouse and Dorletha Goodman in Jefferson City. He graduated from Belle High School in 1969 and spent much of his life doing what he loved most: farming.
After graduation, Kem worked for Rock Island and later at the power plant in Callaway County. However, his heart was always in the fields. Once he had saved enough money to purchase a round baler, he left his job and returned to farming full-time. He began by raising hogs and cattle and growing corn, dedicating himself to the land and the work that brought him so much pride and satisfaction.
On June 29, 1974, Kem married Barbara Neu, beginning a marriage that spanned more than five decades. Together, they built a life rooted in family, hard work, faith, and the community they called home.
Farming was more than a job to Kem; it was a way of life. He took great pride in his work and was always willing to help a neighbor in need. Whether someone needed help sorting calves, tending to their livestock, or providing medical attention to an animal, Kem was the person they could count on. He never hesitated to lend a hand, and his knowledge, toughness, and willingness to help made him a valued friend and neighbor throughout the community.
In his younger years, Kem enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his love for farming remained at the center of his life. No matter what challenges came his way, he could usually be found with a smile on his face. He was known for being ornery, bringing laughter and good humor to those around him. Beneath that playful personality was a tough, dependable man who worked hard, cared deeply for others, and could always be counted on when someone needed him.
Kem's faith was an important part of his life. He was a lifelong member of Liberty Church of Christ and held a strong faith in Jesus Christ.
Kem is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Withouse; his children, Mark Withouse and his wife, Rebecca, of Belle, Matt Withouse of Belle, and Mary Taylor and her husband, Eric, of St. James; his grandchildren, James Withouse, Rylan Withouse, Theodore Withouse, Rosalynn Withouse, River Taylor, Relic Taylor, and Renly Taylor; his brother, Kirk Withouse and his wife, Vicky, of Vichy; his lifelong best friend, Charlie Brown; and many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Withouse and Dorletha Goodman; and his brothers, Jamie Withouse and Douglas Withouse.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Liberty Church of Christ, with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Liberty Cemetery.
