John Eugene "Jack" Hiles of Bland died early Sunday morning, January 24, 2010, at his home. He was 87. Jack was born on August 8, 1922, in St. Louis. He is the son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth G'zel Hiles.
Jack worked at Westinghouse in St. Louis and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No.1 for 30 years. He retired at the age of 55 and moved to his rural farm north of Bland. Jack worshiped God at the St. Alexander Catholic Church in Belle, treasured his family, cared for his pets, and tended to his garden. He was thought of as a kind and gentle man. Jack served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was never married.
Jack is preceded in death by all of his nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by his many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters in laws, other family and friends. In the last years of his life, Jack was looked after and cared for by his niece Shiela Stasiak and sister in law Barbara Hiles.
