James “Jim” A. Barton, age 79, of Fulton and formerly of Bland, passed away on June 30, 2026, at the Fulton Nursing and Rehab.
He was born on July 18, 1946 in Fenton, a son to the late Alton and Stella (Koch) Barton.
Jim was a 1964 graduate of Bland High School. He went on to get his bachelor’s degree from Lincoln, his master’s degree from Missouri and his specialist degree in teaching.
On March 22, 1969 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Rhodes at the St Alexander Catholic Church in Belle. Bonnie survives of their home in Fulton.
Jim taught school for one year in Bland before being named Principle where he served for 3 years. Following Bland, he served as Principle in Warrenton, and as Vice Principle in Fulton. Jim stayed in education before retiring after 27 years. He loved his job and getting the chance to help out the students and, was his hope that all would graduate and live wonderful lives. Jim was a member of Missouri Association of High School secondary Principles, Phi Del Kapa, and the Missouri State Teachers. He enjoyed deer hunting and watching St. Cardinals Baseball. Jim was a hard worker, often working 7 days a week. His Principal job through the week and weekends spent at his and Bonnies Marina shop, Sports Unlimited. He was caring, giving, and kind and always put others needs ahead of his own. Jim will be missed greatly by his family and those that knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by: a son, Jamie Barton, Jr. of Readsville, MO; a daughter, Julie Elizabeth Adamson and her husband Rodney of Clarksville, Ga; one grandson Justin Adamson and his wife Kristina; two great-grandchildren, Hollis and Reese; and three sisters, Patsy Tousant, Virginia Engelbrecht, and Mary Williams as well as many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Milton and Glennon Barton.
Visitation for Jim will be on Monday, July 6, 2026 at the St. Alexander Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with interment in St. Michaels Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Alexander Catholic Church.
