Glenis M. McDonald nee Hays was born to Ed and Francis Hays on February 15, 1921 near Newport, TX. She was the youngest of ten children born to this family. She was baptized into Christ when she was 12 years old. She was united in marriage to Thomas Harvey McDonald on February 14, 1950. There were thirteen children in the McDonald family. She was preceded in death by both parents and all of her siblings and her husband. She is also preceded in death by five children, and four grand children. She is survived by her children: Nelta Brock and her husband Richard who reside in Houston, TX., Verma Long who resides in Pennsylvania, Carolyn Blye and her husband Rodney who reside in Alvord, TX, Jerry McDonald, and his wife Andrea, who reside at Belle, MO, Sherry Dickenson, and her husband Donnie, who reside at Decatur, TX, Wanda Sandlin and her husband Mike who reside at Bentonville, AR, Larry McDonald who resides at Weatherford, TX, and Terry McDonald and his wife Stephanie who also reside at Weatherford, TX. Glenis is survived by 34 grand children, a greater number of great grand children, nieces and nephews and many friends and loved ones.
Thomas and Glenis spent many years in Texas where Thomas preached at various churches of Christ. In the early 1960's they moved to Missouri where they raised their family on the family farm in McDonald County next to the Arkansas line. In 1972 they moved to Gravette, AR and lived for several years before moving to the Rio-Grande Valley, in Edcouch, TX. From there they moved to Decatur, TX and then to Duncan, AZ where Thomas preached for the church of Christ there for approximately two years, after which they moved back to Decatur, TX. In 1994 Thomas passed away and Glenis remained in Decatur until 1998 when she moved to Missouri to help out with her oldest Son who was battling cancer. In 2002 she fell and injured her back and had to live in the Maries Manor Nursing Home where she resided until 2009. She was moved to Frene Valley Health Care South in Owensville in September of 2009 and resided there until her death. Glenis was a life long member of the church of Christ.
Glenis passed from this life at St John's Mercy hospital, in Washington, Missouri, on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the age of 89 after a three week battle with pneumonia. There will be a visitation at Sassmans Funeral Home in Belle, MO at 5:00 pm on Monday September, 20, 2010, after which she will be transported to Decatur, TX and released to Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 5:00, and her funeral will be conducted at the Greenwood church of Christ at 11:00 am on September 23, 2010. She is to be interred at the Newport Cemetery next to her late husband, of 42 years, Thomas Harvey McDonald.
