Bernice Dorothy Schaller-Licklider, age 88, died Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the Frene Valley Nursing Home. During her last hours, she was lovingly surrounded by her son Gary Lee Schaller and wife Barbara of Belle, Missouri and her grandchildren.
Born June 28, 1922, in St. Louis, Missouri, Bernice was the daughter of Herman Piotter and Lena Pietraschke. Bernice was married to Charles Wesley Schaller of Bland on April 20, 1940. Charles passed away on September 7, 1979, after a brief illness from cancer. They had 3 children, Ronnie Charles, Gary Lee and Terena Sue. Bernice's daughter Terena Sue died shortly after she was born. Her son Ronnie died in October of 2010.
In 1992, Bernice married Ira Ross Licklider of Owensville and was blessed with four step-children, Dennis Licklider, Gary Licklider, Lois Altemeyer and Kay Renstrom. Ira passed away in 2010.
Bernice also leaves one son, Gary Lee Schaller and wife Barb of Belle, her daughter in law, Chris Schaller of Paris, Tennessee, and three step children Dennis, Lois and Kay. Bernice was so very proud of her grandchildren. They are Joseph Schaller and wife Amanda of Ft. Riley, Kansas, Shelly Honse and husband Jeff of Belle, Tracy Hemingway and husband Jim of Land O'Lakes, Florida, Jamie Cantrell and husband Keith of Canton, Georgia, Heather Benson and husband Ray of Owensville, and Lizzie Cantlon of Bland, Robin and Melanie of Paris, Tennessee. Her great grandchildren are Miranda, Brandon, Taylor, Colby, Chase, Chandler, Victoria, Austin, Keeley, Hillary, Sierra, Marissa, Zach, Noah and Madeline. She has one great-great grandchild Cooper.
Bernice worked for many years for Brown Shoe Company in Owensville. She retired and devoted her time to her family, traveling, and gardening. She was an active member of the Zion Evangelical Church in Bland, Missouri.
