Franklin Edward Thurmond, age 82 of Owensville, formerly of Bland, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the Frene Valley Nursing Facility in Owensville surrounded by his loving family.
Franklin was born December 9, 1936 in Union, MO., a son to the late Benjamin and Ada (Dearing) Thurmond.
Franklin was married to Joan Burton for 16 years before divorcing in 1971. She preceded him in death in 2003. On June 16, 1973, he was united in marriage to Donna Loyd in Union, Mo., who survives him of the home.
Franklin was a self- employed logger and truck driver for many years. He owned a saw mill and made cedar lawn furniture. He loved fishing, picking walnuts, blackberries and sassafras to make tea.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, Franklin is survived by: six sons, Paul Thurmond and his wife Patty of Bland, Rodger Thurmond of Pryor, OK., Benny Joe Thurmond and his wife Peggy of St. Clair, Sammy Thurmond of St. Clair, Gary Leroy Thurmond and his wife Michelle of St. Clair, Marvin Thurmond and his wife Cindy of Des Moines, IA; three daughters, Rosie McKinnon of St. Clair, Diane Flagg of St. James, Denice Duffer and her husband John of Beaufort, one brother, Gary Thurmond and his wife Barbara of Villages, Fl., 25 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren as well as many extended family members and friends.
Franklin was preceded in death by: one daughter, Lisa Thurmond, one sister, Helen Thurmond Haight, one daughter-in-law, Mary Thurmond, two sons-in-law, Joe McKinnon and David Flagg Sr., and one brother-in law Richard Haight.
A memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Beaufort Lions Club building in Beaufort, Mo. 2041 Lutheran Church Rd, Beaufort, MO 63013. Immediate family are welcome to join together for a meal between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
